We for India Benefit Show Raises $ 5 Million for Covid Relief

We for India, a live-streamed fundraising event featuring performances by Ed Sheeran, Nile Rodgers, Annie Lennox and AR Rahman, raised over US $ 5 million for the India Covid Response Fund , announced the organizers.

Held on Sunday August 15, 2021, India’s 75th Independence Day, the show featured over 100 musicians, actors, directors, TV stars and other celebrities and was released to a global audience on Facebook. Other attendees included Steven Spielberg, Mick Jagger and Indian movie stars Ajay Devgan, Hrithik Roshan, Nagarjuna and Arjun Kapoor.

Shibasish Sarkar, Group CEO of Reliance Entertainment, who organized We for India in association with GiveIndia, Facebook and the United Nations platform The World We Want, said: “The honest and sincere efforts of our team and partners are the reason for the great success of this event. I want to express my gratitude to all the talents, artists, philanthropists and everyone who has supported this fundraiser. It is our humble contribution to our nation’s ongoing battle against the invisible enemy.

The money, of around 370 million rupees, was raised from a combination of business partners, philanthropic foundations and individual donors. It follows a similar event, I for India, which raised $ 7 million in May 2020.
