Droughts, floods and fires impact the lives of millions of people every year and this year we are seeing record-breaking wildfires in California. Chirs Funk, Ph.D. has studied climate for most of his adult life and says the warm atmosphere Earth is currently experiencing will likely be worse next year! He is the guest of Houston Newsmakers this week with Khambrel Marshall and says his book, “Droughts, Floods and Fires” deals with the catastrophic impacts of climate change and focuses totally on facts and away from politics. Lest you think you’ve missed the deadline to get help paying off your mortgages. or leases, there’s help from Harris County if you live in the right place. “We still have significant dollars to distribute,” said Adrienne Holloway, Ph.D., executive director of the Harris County Department of Community Services. “So we really want people to call if they find themselves eligible, live in unincorporated Harris County, have an impact from COVID, have an active lease they couldn’t pay rent, call us, ”she said.

From bottom to top to successful business owners

Black business owners make up only 4% of the less than 100,000 small businesses in the Greater Houston area. National Black Business Month is August and highlights David and Jessica Martin, who are examples of their ability to overcome challenges to be successful. Both have had trouble with the law and many other obstacles that they themselves created before they found the right path. Jessica said prison has helped her use solitude to find the right focus. “Instead of trying to find a way to make money illegally, quickly, I really sat down and made a plan and got in with GOD and partnered with him,” a- she declared.
