New music store opens in downtown Erwin | News

There is a new place for music lovers in downtown Erwin.

Music Mountain celebrated its grand opening on Thursday with a ribbon cut. The music store will offer guitar, bass, mandolin and ukulele lessons. Owners Lori and Joel Janis also hope to add the piano to the list of lessons.

“Regardless of age and skill level, we’re here for lessons,” said Joel Janis.

In addition to teaching classes, the store also sells a variety of old and new instruments and accessories.

“Everything that we have has been sort of handpicked, because with COVID it’s just more difficult to get new instruments, so it’s actually fun to build a store one by one and not like orders coming from a factory, ”said Joël Janis.

The couple moved to Erwin from Michigan after scouring different areas for a good location in eastern Tennessee to open their store.

After meeting people online, Lori Janis said they found the location for their shop on Gay Street.

“We started connecting with some people online and we were told about this space and its availability and we just knew it,” said Lori Janis. “It had been a while since we had felt a commotion that there was something great for us to do. “

Music Mountain will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
