Boulevardia cancels 2021 music, festival maker; waiting for the full return of COVID before the return of the summer party
ohone of Kansas City’s main summer events – and the first major local festival canceled due to the pandemic in 2020 – won’t be back in June after all, organizers said on Tuesday.
“When the decision was taken last year to cancel Boulevardia, we said, ‘The comeback is always stronger than the setback. “This statement was at the heart of our conversations as we planned it for the 2021 event”, Boulevardia organizers said in a message to supporters.
The event is now scheduled to return from June 17-18, 2022.

Although the availability of COVID-19 vaccination begins to increase across the country and some municipalities are easing restrictions on gatherings, the time is still not quite right for a return to “normal” for Boulevardia – at least not at the level of quality organizers and summer revelers expect the event, the statement said.
“Great strides have been made in overcoming COVID-19 as a community. But we decided that going forward with a festival in June would not allow us to present the BEST Boulevardia as we all know and love it, ”the organizers said.
Kansas City’s most recent COVID-19 restrictions were updated on March 12 and lasted until at least May 1.

Few details on plans for 2021 Boulevardia had been made public ahead of Tuesday’s announcement.
In 2020, the festival was planned along Grand Boulevard at the Crown Center, where it was due to move this summer after six years in the Kansas City Stockyards District in the West Bottoms. The two-day “Urban Street Festival” was to feature music, makers, food and beers.
“When Boulevardia returns, we want it to be the best celebration possible for our citizens, artists, partners, staff and the entire Kansas City community,” organizers said in announcing the cancellation of 2021. “With that in mind, we let’s focus our efforts on making sure our 2022 pop up party nation is the best yet. Boulevardia will be back when you ALL can join us.
